High school football: The season's sixth "Shining Star" is announced

Readers have determined that Xavier James of Des Moines East is the sixth winner of the Register’s Shining Star award, which is determined each week of the Iowa high school football regular season.
James, a senior quarterback, completed 27 of 36 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-13 victory against Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln last Saturday.
He received 163 of the 508 votes (32.1 percent). Harrison Hoegh of Atlantic received 157 votes.
The other four candidates were Joel Lanning of Ankeny; Blake Wiltgen of LeMars Gehlen; Jacob Sobotka of Mount Ayr; and Spencer Halloran of West Fork of Sheffield.
Here is the final voting.
Coaches are asked to nominate players by contacting the Register’s Tommy Birch on Saturday before 11 a.m. at tbirch@dmreg.com or via Twitter @TommyBirch. A new set of candidates will be announced and voting will begin at DesMoinesRegister.com on Saturday afternoon.
The previous winners: Kenny Floyd of Norwalk, Nate Boland of Iowa City West, Cal Stovie of Cedar Rapids Xavier, Zach Minch of Davenport Central and Lance Dunn of Waterloo West.
