Morgan Van Alstine added another chapter to her Merritt Island High volleyball career this year, being named the Class 5A Player of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers.
She led the Mustangs back to the state final this season, a year after helping win the school’s first state championship in volleyball.
Van Alstine, who will play college volleyball for the University of North Florida, was the 2011 FLORIDA TODAY Player of the Year.
This season, she had 333 kills, 98 digs and 67 blocks, 40 of those solo. As a result of her selection, she is a finalist for the 2012 Miss Volleyball Award.
■ Van Alstine and teammate Danielle Klein will represent the Space Coast today in the senior all-star game being played at St. Leo University.
They are two of 24 players from around the state selected for the honor. Merritt Island’s Angie Patrick will be a coach in the event.
