Padua has named its next boys and girls varsity basketball coaches. Jake Lantz will lead the school’s boys squad while Scott Klingbeil will lead its girls squad.
Akron Firestone rising senior wide receiver Kevin Gladney orally committed on Monday to accepting an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska and to play for the Cornhuskers’ gridiron program, beginning in 2013-14.
St. Thomas Aquinas recently named Rob Rhodes as its next head varsity girls basketball coach.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday that former Elyria volleyball coach Carol Russo has been selected as part of the 10th annual AVCA Hall of Fame class to be inducted in December.
West Geauga recently named Paul Reed as its next varsity girls soccer coach. Bill Bryan, who guided the Wolverines the past three seasons, stepped down from the head job to be able to spend more time with his family, but will still serve as an assistant.
Midview High School’s Adelsberg Stadium is getting a makeover this summer, as a synthetic field turf is being installed. The renovation was made possible by a $150,000 donation from the Willard “Bill” Carmel family and a $200,000 contribution from the Cleveland Browns through the NFL Grassroots Program.
Laurel School basketball coach David Meyer will add an additional job title in July, as he becomes the next athletic director at the all-girls school. Meyer served as the Gators’ assistant AD the past seven school years. Current athletic director Seth Kushkin is leaving the post to be an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Colorado.
2012 St. Ignatius graduate Matt Gerard won the 34th annual Hudson Junior Invitational boys golf tournament while Medina Highland rising senior Jessica Porvasnik finished second in the 33rd annual Hudson junior Invitational girls golf tournament.
Shaker Heights quarterback Connor Hall and Bedford safety Terrick McKenney starred in the 40th annual Cuyahoga County East-West All-Star High School Scholarship Football Game on Friday night, as the East squad routed the West squad 37-19. Check out our photos from the contest.
Mike Ark has been hired as Eastlake North’s next varsity boys basketball coach. Ark, an Eastlake North graduate, previously coached in North Carolina.
Ohio defeated Pennsylvania 24-21 in overtime of the Big 33 High School Football Classic on Saturday. The Ohio squad overcame a 21-7 deficit to win the annual prep all-star classic for the fourth consecutive year.
2012 North Canton Hoover graduate Maddie Morrow qualified to compete in the high jump at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Spain in July by placing third at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Indiana on Saturday. 2011 Medina High School graduate and University of Florida student-athlete Taylor Burke finished in first place.
