Alex Katz came into the Roncalli football team’s homecoming game against visiting Sturgeon Bay on Friday with questions about his injured ankle.
A 64-yard touchdown run by Katz on the Jets opening drive put any doubts to rest en route to a 41-21 victory to make homecoming a little sweeter.
On the third possession for Roncalli, Katz scored again on a long 65-yard reverse to stake the Jets an early 13-0 lead after the extra point was missed.
The fireworks were just beginning as Roncalli coach Ray Baranczyk dialed up a double-reverse flea flicker for a 51-yard touchdown from Jets quarterback Zach Slattery to Logan Koss on the ensuing possession.
Roncalli’s defense forced a second-straight stop on fourth down to turn the ball back to the Jets’ offense, which drove the field and scored once again on a 3-yard run by Joey Macdonald.
Macdonald tallied another score from a yard out to give Roncalli a commanding 35-6 lead at halftime after the Clippers scored on a 25-yard pass play just before the first half ended.
The Jets consumed more than eight minutes of the third quarter on a 14-play 74-yard drive. Colin Senglaub capped the drive by diving in from the goal line to erase any momentum Sturgeon Bay might have been holding after halftime.
The Clippers scored a touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter but the damage was already done by the potent Jets rushing game.
