Indiana basketball tournaments regroup after harsh weather

By

Inclement weather has wreaked havoc on many holiday boys’ basketball tournaments involving Southern Indiana high school teams.

* The 16-team Bob Wettig Memorial Tournament in Richmond will start today, but at 4 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. with both the high school (Tiernan Center) and Earlham College gyms being used, Richmond High athletic director Chad Bolser said.

At Earlham College, it’ll be Jennings County vs. Rock Creek at 5:30 and Jeffersonville vs. Indianapolis Metropolitan at 8:30. Floyd Central and Indianapolis Chatard play at the Tiernan Center at 8:30.

Friday and Saturday schedules will remain the same.

* Henryville’s McKee Munk Invitational has been postponed from today to Saturday. Christian Academy will face Crothersville at 10 a.m. and Oldenburg Academy will take on Henryville at 11:45. The consolation game will be at 6 and the final at 7:45.

* The eight-team Union County Holiday Tournament will start Friday instead of today. New Washington will play host Union County and Southwestern will go against Northeastern. Both games tip at noon.

* The City Securities Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle will conduct both the girls’ and boys’ tournaments on Friday.

Girls’ semifinals — Hamilton Southeastern-Columbus North and Evansville Mater Dei-Logansport — will be played at 9 and 10:45 a.m. In the boys’ tournament, Indianapolis Cathedral will play Jay County at 12:30, followed by Indianapolis Tech-Fort Wayne Northrop at 2:15. The girls’ consolation (4 p.m.) and championship game (5:45 p.m.) will precede the boys consolation (7:30 p.m.) and championship game (9:15 p.m.).
