Carson Case and Scott Partington scored third-period goals and junior goalie Brandon Kasel notched his first shutout of the season Friday as the Ithaca High boys’ hockey team defeated Whitesboro, 2-0.
Kasel made 18 saves for Ithaca, which improved to 6-1 with its second straight victory.
Tyler Garcia made 20 saves for the Warriors, who fell to 2-7 on the year.
The Little Red is next in action on Saturday and Sunday, when it takes part in the CBA Albany Tournament. Ithaca then travels north to play in the Cicero-North Syracuse Tournament, Jan. 4-5 at Twin Rinks in Cicero, and then will play three straight home games at Lynah Rink, against Fayetteville-Manlius (Jan. 7), Baldwinsville (Jan. 10) and West Genesee (Jan. 12). They are the last three scheduled home games for Coach Paul Zarach’s Little Red.
* Owego Invitational: Union-Endicott’s Sean McMahon pinned Rob Klotz in the final match at 182 pounds as the Tigers defeated Pittsford, 42-36, in the championship match of the Owego Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday.
McMahon pinned Klotz in 1:33, breaking a 36-all tie.
Earlier in the match, U-E picked up a pair of comeback victories that proved crucial.
U-E’s Tristan Martin trailed 5-4 before pinning Chase Doran in a 145 match. At 160, Tahjae Napoleon trailed 2-0 in the second period before pinning Harrison Hider in 3:50.
Newark Valley finished third, followed by Unatego, host Owego, Norwich and Candor.
* Ithaca 70, Union-Endicott 31: The Little Red won every event but the diving in cruising past the Tigers on Friday at U-E. Kevin Miller won two individual events and swam on two winning relays to lead Ithaca, while Andr Mikhailchenko won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.
Ithaca hosts Binghamton at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4.
