Jalen Hurd finds extra 'oomph', rushes for 7 TDs in state title game

Jalen Hurd, who has been putting up Nintendo-like numbers all season, ran for 394 yards and seven touchdowns to lead Beech (Hendersonville, Tenn.) to a 56-35 defeat of Columbia in the state 5A title game Friday night.

“You’re competing for the state championship, and any time you’re in that situation you’re going to have more oomph, and I’m just glad we pulled it through,” the junior running back Hurd told The Tennessean. “When the offensive line is doing a great job and giving me holes that encourages me to run harder.”

Hurd set a state season rushing record with 3,357 yards, breaking the mark of 3,082 that Huntington’s Jacob Warbritton set roughly seven hours before Hurd’s big night.
