King, Shultz lead All-District baseball team



Riverdale rolled through District 7-AAA during the high school baseball season.

The Warriors’ success showed in the postseason accolades with 11 members of Riverdale’s Final Four baseball team named to the District 7-AAA baseball team.

Recent Riverdale graduate Jonathan King was named the league’s player of the year after posting an 11-1 record on the mound with a .398 batting average and 10 home runs at the pate. King, a Georgia Tech signee, was also named the Tennessee Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year — the first from the school to receive the baseball honor.

He is joined on the team by outfielders Thomas Bradey (.450) and Ronnie Stephens (.388, seven home runs), designated hitter Taylor Walker (.316, 10 home runs) third baseman Drew Huff (.307), pitchers Collin Snider (5-3, 2.60 ERA) and Zach Westberry (4-1, 1.84 ERA, 4 saves) second baseman Trevor Ball (.276).

Pitcher Colt Adams (4-1, 3.12 ERA) and outfielder Joey Trevathon (.320) were named honorable mention.

Riverdale coach Barry Messer was named the District 7-AAA coach of the year.

Blackman placed six on the team. Second baseman Logan Fleenor, shortstop Will Snider, catcher Clay Skipworth, pitcher Hunter Martin and outfielder Chance Johnson are all on the team. Alex Brown is an honorable mention.

Siegel pitcher Ryan Shultz was named the 7-AAA pitcher of the year and is one of four players on the team. Shultz went 8-3 for the Stars this past season. Connor Moss was named to the team as a utility player and Brent Stockstill was named to the team as an outfielder.

Outfielder Patrick Reed and infielder Zach Ginn were named to the team as honorable mention.

Smyrna place five on the all-district team. First baseman Tyler Groce (.426) led the Bulldogs on the team. Others included third baseman Josh Adams (.352), pitcher Damon Shaw (6-3, 1.29 ERA) and outfielder Anthony Stricklin (.300, 4 home runs). Dylan McCrary is on the team as an honorable mention.

Oakland placed three on the team. Pitcher Alex Ward (6-2, 1.72 ERA) and outfielder Peter Newman (.373) are both on the team. Ben Sanderson is on the team as an honorable mention.

La Vergne placed two on the team in utility player Dustin Bills and honorable mention Matt Lyons.
