The lights will be turned on Friday night. The football will be kicked into the air.

And with that, another season of high school football will be underway.

Welcome fans to another year of high school football.

Rutherford County is home to the best prep football in the state, with District 7-AAA being recognized as one of the best leagues in the nation. It’s earned the nickname of the SEC of Tennessee high school football.

But to perform at that high of a level of competition, leaders must be forged on the field.

Two of those leaders — Siegel quarterback Brent Stockstill and Riverdale quarterback Dillon Woodruff — are displayed on the cover of today’s high school football preview section. They run the offenses of arguably the best two teams in District 7-AAA this season.

They are the best two quarterbacks in Rutherford County, and two of the better signal callers in the state.

Oh, and they play in the same city. That speaks volumes to what we can expect in District 7-AAA this season.

These two quarterbacks have earned the respect given them. They have put in the time in the weight room and done the conditioning.

Why, you ask, are Riverdale and Siegel perceived as the favorites? A lot reside in their quarterbacks. Both are calm under pressure. Both are young men that can handle the pressure of a two-minute drill.

And both welcome the challenge of competing in the toughest league in the state.
