One of four last-minute college athletic signings out of La Quinta High School, Madison Pedone will be playing volleyball for Concordia University in Texas next year after signing with the school last Friday.
The 17-year old was an All-Desert Valley League player her senior year for the Blackhawks and will head to Austin to play for the Division III Tornados.
MyDesert spoke to Pedone earlier this week about her future and how she ended up at Concordia.
QUESTION: What was the attraction to Concordia Texas?
ANSWER: It looked like a great school, and I’ve spoken to the coach a lot. It seemed like a good fit.
How did you hear about it?
Through my scouting director, through National Scouting Report.
Can you explain what that is?
It’s a service that we can get if we want help finding colleges. They give our names out to schools throughout the whole United States.
Did you consider anywhere else?
Yes. Francis Marion (University) in South Carolina, Cal State Stanislaus and a few more.
What made you choose Concordia?
I liked it because it was in Austin. It was a bigger town, and it wasn’t too far away from home, so that was nice.
When do you head off to Austin?
The move-in day for athletes is Aug. 16.
Have you been there yet?
I lived there a while when I was 3 or 4, but I haven’t been there recently to check out the campus.
Will you be starting as a freshman?
I don’t know about starting, but I know I’ll have a chance to start. I’ll be able to fight for the position.
