After defeating Howell in its 2012-13 season opener 69-36, head coach Dave Jones’ girls pickup up win number two with a 62-49 win over visiting Grandville.
Trailing by six at the half, 27-21 the offense came to life in the second half and pulled away from the Bulldogs.
“At the half we talked about our defense and we came out and applied some very good defense and hit some shots and eventually pulled away,” Jones said.
After the third period of play the Comets had jumped ahead 43-36 thanks to a 22-9 scoring edge.
Junior Lindsay Orwat led the pull away and finished with a game high 22 points. Twin sister Hannah added 10. Sophomore Cori Crocker dumped in 12 and junior Codi Drake hit for 13.
“One of our goals for the season is to have balanced scoring and we had four girls in double figures and that was a real positive for us for the game,” Jones added.
Senior Lauren Bachert added two points, senior Beth Boman two and sophomore Sophie Guzman one.
Crocker finished the game with a double-double as she also recorded 10 rebounds.
