Brillion’s football playoff run came to an end Saturday, one step short of the state finals, after the Lions lost to Lancaster 34-21 in a WIAA Division 5 semifinal game in Middleton.
Lancaster (12-0) took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed against the Lions (10-2).
Brillion kept pushing back, however, closing to within 28-21 with 6:15 left in the fourth quarter when Eric Kittel scored on a 60-yard run.
“I was extremely proud of the resiliency our kids displayed in the second half to work back into the game,” Brillion coach Pete Kittel said. “We faced a great deal of adversity with injuries both prior to the game as well as during the game. Our kids were able to find the resolve to continue to compete and get back within one score midway through the fourth quarter.”
It was after that score by the Lions that the Flying Arrows clinched the game, running 12 plays to burn 4:23 off the clock and score the clinching touchdown on a one-yard run by Tyler Glass.
Eric Kittel led Brillion with 122 yards rushing and 71 yards receiving.
Lancaster, which rushed for 316 yards, was led by A.J. Day and Tyler Glass, who rushed for 154 and 114 yards, respectively.
