Lansing senior midfielder Cobi Byrne has been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America all-state team for boys soccer.
Byrne was a first-team selection to the Small School team, which includes players in classes B, C and D.
Byrne was a part of a senior class that led the Bobcats to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons and state final appearances in the last two seasons. Lansing’s only two losses during that time came in the state championship games .
The Bobcats finished this latest season 21-1, giving up a state-record two goals.
Byrne was used as a central attacking midfielder by Lansing coach Adam Heck, and scored in a 4-0 victory over Greene in the Secion 4 final.
Classmate and midfielder partner Spencer Warkentin was also named all-state by the NSCAA, earning third-team honors. Warkentin, who played a more defensive role.
Marathon, who won the IAC Small School title and ended its season in the first round of the state playoffs, also had a pair of players named all-state, with senior Jeff Contri garnering third-team accolades and sophomore Tyler Hoellerer being picked to the fifth team.
