Late prep football: Valders wins defensive slugfest

The Valders football team picked up its win of the season on Thursday on the road 7-0 over New Holstein.

Due to WIAA scheduling rules teams were allowed to schedule an added game if they weren’t in the playoffs.

The Vikings (1-8) lone score of the night came on an interception return by Brandon Ertel in the first quarter. Ertel would also lead Valders in rushing and receiving with nine carries for 31 yards and one catch for 14.

Valders’ Ryan Vallesky completed 2-of-5 passes for 25 yards with Paxton Korslin hauling in the other pass for 11 yards.

The Vikings offense was limited to just 67 yards of total offense but the defense picked them up by forcing five turnovers and the lone touchdown.
