The nor’easter that blew into Delaware on Wednesday forced the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association to juggle its state tournament schedules in field hockey and boys soccer.
First-round field hockey games scheduled for Wednesday and today have been moved to Friday and Saturday at the home fields of the higher-seeded teams. The lone exception is the Wilmington Christian-Charter of Wilmington game, which will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday at Caravel.
The field hockey quarterfinals will be played Tuesday, with the semifinals Nov. 15 and the championship game Nov. 17. Sites and times for the later rounds will be announced next week.
All first-round boys soccer games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will now be played Saturday. Some of the venues have been changed, with Dover High School hosting four games, Appoquinimink hosting two and Caravel hosting two.
The boys soccer quarterfinals will be played Nov. 14, with the semifinals Nov. 17 and the championship game Nov. 20. Sites and times for the later rounds will be announced next week.
The DIAA Volleyball State Tournament will continue as scheduled, with semifinal games to be played tonight at St. Mark’s. Second-seeded Padua (15-2) will meet sixth-seeded Concord (15-2) in the first match at 6, followed by top-seeded St. Mark’s (17-0) against fourth-seeded Ursuline (13-4).
The DIAA Cross-Country Championships will be held as scheduled on Saturday at Brandywine Creek State Park. The Division II girls race will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the Division I girls at 1:40, Division II boys at 2:20 and Division I boys at 3.
The DIAA Football State Tournament committee will meet as scheduled Sunday morning to determine the fields for the Division I and Division II football tournaments. The football playoffs will begin as scheduled next weekend.
