Lincoln falls in 7A title game, 41-25

It started with a bang, but the finish left the Lincoln High Trojans heartbroken.

After returning the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown, Lincoln fell behind 21-6 and never recovered in the Class 7A title game. Instead, it was St. Thomas Aquinas who won the championship thanks to a 41-25 victory.

The Trojans (12-2) struck first when sophomore receiver John Burt bounced off two defenders and raced for a touchdown to open the game. But the Raiders unleashed some big-play magic of its own to score touchdowns on their first three possessions.

Lincoln bounced back to cut the lead to 21-19 in the second quarter thanks to a 1-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Cameron Joseph and a 50-yard touchdown reception by Taj Williams.

But St. Thomas Aquinas closed the first half with a field goal and then put the game away in the fourth quarter.

Edward Gaines scored on a touchdown reception to give Lincoln it’s last points of the 2012 season.
