Both Bailey Budnik and Kali Hackmann fell on Day 2 of the WIAA Division 1 Girls State Individual Tennis Tournament on Friday, ending Manitowoc Lincoln’s run at State.
Budnik (31-2) was defeated by No. 5-seeded Kenosha Tremper junior Megan Humphreys (34-2) in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The loss caps an end to Budnik’s successful freshman season, one of the statistically-best for a first-year Ships player in recent years.
Hackmann (19-5) capper her senior season with Lincoln by falling to fellow senior Sydney Wolfe (29-5) of Eau Claire Memorial 6-1, 6-3. Hackmann was making her third State appearance after making it her freshman and sophomore years while missing her junior season because of an injury.
