Lincoln pair finishes 2nd at conference tourney


Manitowoc Lincoln girls tennis No. 1 singles player Bailey Budnik and No. 2 singles player Kalie Hackmann each fell in the championship matches of their respective flights on Thursday during the final day of the two-day Fox River Classic Conference Tournament.

Budnik fell 6-0, 6-0 to Green Bay Notre Dame’s Ellie Zimmerman while Hackmann lost to De Pere’s Mariah Mihailescu 6-3, 6-3.

Lincoln’s No. 3 singles player Seidl DeWitt defeated De Pere’s Cristina Villalovas 7-5, 6-1 to finish the tournament in third while the Ships’ No. 4 singles player, Haley Feller, fell to Sheboygan North’s Brittany McCrory 7-6(6), 6-3 to finish in sixth.

In doubles, the Ships’ No. 1 pair of Leah Auchter and Eden Schuette finished in seventh place after winning the seventh-place match 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Michaela Jagemann and Sydney Verbauwhede fell in the fifth-place match 6-3, 6-2 to finish sixth.

On Monday Manitowoc Lincoln will host subsectionals in Kohler.
