Lincoln rallies for tie with South

Trailing 2-0 with 25 minutes left in the game, the Manitowoc Lincoln boys soccer team rallied against visiting Sheboygan South to finish with a 2-2 double-overtime tie on Tuesday’s senior night.

“A tough result, but considering how physical South played … I was very proud of the way we chose to act,” Lincoln coach Chris Callen said in an email. “My boys are a very classy group, and my seniors are the prime example of that.”

South scored four minutes in and added another at the 54-minute mark. In the 66th minute the Ships answered on a goal by Michael Olson on an assist from Sander Hansen. Hansen completed Lincoln’s comeback with an unassisted goal two minutes later.

“The game seemed lost as we approached the last 20 minutes, but all it took was a goal to completely shift the momentum to our side,” Callen said. “Tonight was senior night and to reward Michael (Olson) and Ben (Henry) we asked they play the entire 100 minutes.”

Lincoln (13-4-3, 4-4-2 Fox River Classic Conference) and South each had nine shots on goal with Drake Nickels making seven saves for the Ships.
