Lincoln's Longmeyer chosen HTR All-Area Baseball Athlete of the Year

Manitowoc Lincoln senior Michael Longmeyer consistently produced at a high level this season, which is why he has been chosen as the Herald Times Reporter’s All-Area Baseball Athlete of the Year.

Longmeyer led the Ships with a .365 batting average, 24 hits, 24 runs scored and 18 RBI. He also set a school record with 19 stolen bases on 23 attempts.

Another reason Michael was chosen was his ability to find that extra gear in the Fox River Classic Conference, finishing 11th with a .373 average which set the table for the Lincoln offense.

Lincoln started the year 1-9 but recovered to finish 12-15 overall to earn the No. 9 seed in the WIAA Division 1 regionals before falling on the road to No. 8 Madison East 8-1.

“Michael sort of slumped to start the season,” said Lincoln coach Bruce Steinbecker. “It was no surprise that once he started to get things going offensively our team really took off.”

Longmeyer will play football for UW-Stevens Point in the fall, and is still on decided on whether to play baseball as well for the Pointers.
