The Little Hawks got a Saturday afternoon win in Davenport as City beat Davenport West 69-44.
Lonnie Chester controlled the pace of the game at point guard, coach Don Showalter said. Chester had 14 points, four assists and four rebounds.
Andy Hein hit several big 3-pointers to help blow open the game. Hein had 14 points including four 3-pointers.
City led 62-30 after three quarters.
“We were really focused for our first road game,” Showalter said. “It was a complete team victory.”
Ladarius Taylor had nine points, and Malin Craig had seven rebounds for City (2-0).
* WEST 57, AMES 36: The Trojans built a 34-14 halftime lead Saturday in Ames.
Wyatt Lohaus led the scoring with 16 points, and Jeremy Morgan had 15 points. Lohaus also had six assists.
Myzeah Batie-Gaddy had nine points as did Austin Swank. Jason Stewart led the Trojans with six rebounds.
West is 2-0.
* WEST LIBERTY 62, WEST BURLINGTON 38: The Comets picked up a nonconference win late Saturday afternoon in West Liberty.
Tyler Newsom led West Liberty (3-0) with 19 points. Kyle Miller added 11 points, Ty Williams had eight points and Troy Heick seven.
West Liberty raced out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter.
* S.E. POLK 67, CITY HIGH 53: No. 7 Southeast Polk beat a sluggish No. 2 City High team Saturday afternoon in Runnells.
Micky Hansche led City with 17 points, and Haley Lorenzen had 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Courtney Joens added nine points and four assists.
The Little Hawks were just 12-of-26 at the foul line Saturday.
“We looked very, very tired,” City coach Bill McTaggart said. “She just played very sluggish. Hopefully, we’ll bounce back on Tuesday.”
City is at Cedar Rapids Prairie on Tuesday.
* ENGLISH VALLEY 46, IMS 43: IMS had cut the lead to 44-43 with a minute to play but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer Saturday in Kalona.
Olivia Yutzy led IMS (1-4) with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Riley Schmieder had 10 points and Hannah Miller added seven points.
