Junior forward Jacob Grippin had two goals and an assist, all in the first 12 minutes, as the Ithaca High boys hockey team remained undefeated on Tuesday night with a 10-2 victory over Ontario Bay at Halden Arena.
Junior Chandler Pfaff and seniors Mike Abdulky and Dakota Baylor all had a goal and two assists for Coach Paul Zarach’s Little Red (2-0), which scored five times in the first period. Ithaca, which got goals from nine different players, added four goals in the second period and one more in the third.
Tom Taplin and Ben Engerbrekt had the goals for Ontario Bay (0-1), while goalie Phil Cherchio made 21 saves.
Zarach rolled four offensive lines and three sets of defensemen the entire game, and used a different goalie in each period. Junior Brandon Kasel made three saves in the first, junior Aaron Goldberg stopped two shots in the second and senior Dylan Riker stopped all seven shots he faced in the third.
“It was a good game to get everybody some opportunities to play, and it was especially good to see nine different goal-scorers,” Zarach said.
Stephen Feeney started the goal-fest for Ithaca 93 seconds into the game, and the Little Red had five goals within the first 12 minutes of action. Other goal-scorers for Ithaca were Wilson Gearhart, Scott Partington, Carson Case and Ryan Emerson. Senior captain Luke Mendola had two assists, as did junior defenseman Charlie Estill.
Ithaca plays the first of its four home games on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Lynah Rink against Geneva. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
