Long Branch coach Dan George talked about preparing this year’s Green Wave for a playoff appearance. The Green Wave haven’t made the playoffs since 2009 when they started the season 5-0 and finished 7-3.
Q: Do you feel if everything goes right this season that you might have another playoff team this season?
A: I think people and our own kids are looking at a playoff contender. I think fighting for a championship in our division, if we can fight for that, it is going to put us in a position to hopefully to make the playoffs.
Q: You have a tough schedule with three of your first four games on the road against traditionally strong programs, what are your thoughts on your schedule?
A: There is more pressure with our schedule, and with saying that in Group II, you have room for error with your power points. In Group III, there is very little room for error. As a coach you are always eyeing the power points and where you are going to fall in.
Q: Dwight Clark, your top running back from last season, suffered an ankle injury in a scrimmage and will be out for a while, what changes will you make to make up for this injury?
A: We plan on having Clark back but we don’t know when. Obviously, other people will have to set up. We are a senior team and we’ll have to get more out of our quarterback Avery Griffin and our fullback Joscil Jackson. We have talented tailbacks behind Clark like Brett Roach, Deion Williams and Dahmiere Willis, so it will be a running back by committee.
