Lourdes sends four to sectionals


Brown Deer subsectional: The Lourdes Academy Knights finished second as a team with 16 points in Brown Deer and are sending four flights on to sectionals this Wednesday.

The Knights will send three singles and one doubles flight on. Lianna Hawi made it through at No. 1 singles, defeating Dominican’s Jordana Farkes, 6-0, 6-0, while Jenna Janssen and Maddie McDonald each won tough second matches to move on to sectionals at No 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

The No. 1 doubles team of Michelle McDonald and Angela Moore def. Milwaukee Lutheran’s Rebecca Baade and Angelina Pankow, 6-2, 6-1, to move on.

Coach Tim Moore was pleased with the effort all the way around for the Knights.

“The girls did a great job competing in a difficult subsectional,” he said. “All year we wanted to get kids through to the next step and we are fortunate to have 4 teams continuing onto sectionals.”

Team scores: University School of Milwaukee 24, Lourdes Academy 16, Shorewood 14, Brookfield Academy 12, Kewaskum 6, Brown Deer 6, Dominican 2, Milwaukee Lutheran 0, St. Mary’s Springs 0.

Clare Swietlik (BA), 6-2, 6-4; lost to Victoria Nelsen (SHOR), 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 — Jenna Janssen (LA): def. Caroline Enes (DOM), 6-1, 6-0; def. Megan Shea (BA), 7-5, 6-4; No. 4 — Maddie McDonald (LA): def. Johanna Proefrock (ML), 6-0, 6-0; def. Jenna Vuorinen, 7-5, 6-3.

Doubles: No. 1 — Michelle McDonald/Angela Moore (LA): def. Rebecca Baade/Angelina Pankow (ML), 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 — Jeannie Dishaw/Liz Glowcheski (LA): lost to Grace Beagle/Angela Schreiner (BA), 6-3, 6-0; No. 3 — Sara Weber/Abby Schaefers (LA): def. Anna Cahalane/Katie Forke (ML), 7-5, 6-4; lost to Hayley Gebhardt/Carly Black (USM), 6-0, 6-1.
