Lutheran's Audra Winter caps career with multiple medals

Winning one gold medal just wasn’t enough for Manitowoc Lutheran senior Audra Winter.

Winter, the Herald Times Reporter’s All-Area Girls Track Athlete of the Year, began her memorable run at this year’s WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse on Day 1 by winning the Division 3 high jump event with a height of 5 feet, 4 inches — four inches better than her seed height.

“Audra is really good at pressure situations, so I think the better the competition the better her focus is and the better her performance is,” Manitowoc Lutheran girls track coach Karen Wilsmann said prior to State.

Winter’s best jump of the season, 5-5, was also Manitowoc County’s best of the season, according to stats compiled for the Herald Times Reporter.

Just a day after winning her first gold, Winter capped off her high school track career by besting long-time rival Meg Heafy, of Reedsville, in the Division 3 100-meter dash with a time of 12.61 to win another. Winter had finished second behind Heafy at State last year in the same event.

But that wasn’t all Winter accomplished at State. She also ran legs for the Lancers’ second-place 800 relay team and the seventh-place 400 relay team.
