Three Maine-Endwell runners finished in the top five to lead the Spartans to the team victory at the the Bob Greene Cross Country Invitational at Newark Valley on Friday.
Elmira took the top two individual sports and finished second in the team standings.
Shaun Kurcoba of Elmira finished first in 16 minutes, 41.8 secondsand teammate Cory McCarty finished in 6:45.7.
M-E runners founded out the top five, led by Bryant Hatala (16:46.3), Nate Smith (16:58.5) and Cody Brizzolara (17:18.5).
The Spartans finished with 39 points and the Express had 56.
On the girls side, Elmira ran away with the team title with 21 points. Newark Valley was second with 47.
Elmira had three in the top 5 led by overall winner Abby Wheeler (19:46.9), Melinda Wheeler (19:54.5), and Jessica Thatcher (20:07.1) finished fifth.
Owego 97, Chenango Valley 88: Chenango Valley lost its first team meet of the season, but Emily Smith set a pool record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 1.46 seconds, beating Teresa Burr’s 2003 record, according to Chenango Valley coach Amy Nugent.
Union-Endicott 2, Elmira 0: Matt Ward scored twice as the Tigers downed the Express.
