Macintyre Felton scored all three goals as host Vestal defeated corning, 3-0, in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference boys soccer game on Saturday afternoon.
Macintyre, who leads Vestal with 11 goals in seven games, scored twice before halftime as the Bears improved to 6-1 this season.
“Mac had a great day for individual effort, but when we went to five midfielders, it was the key to getting him freed up,” Vestal coach Jim Murphy said.
The Bears, who are in first place in the Metro, head to Elmira on Monday. The Express handed Vestal its only loss in the season opener.
Watkins Glen 5, Candor 0: The Watkins Glen Senecas jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and were never threatened in a rain-soaked IAC game. Colin Gates opened the scoring just over four minutes into the contest with a driving shot from the center of the field after an errant Candor clear.
Brennan Demeritt and Jesse Teeter each scored twice for the Senecas.
Tony Keough had 3 saves for the Senecas, who outshot Candor 20-3 and had six corner kicks to Candors two.
Greene 10, Afton 1: Luke Day had four goals, and Kurt Barthlomew and Alex Leone scored twice to lead Greene in a MAC match. Leone also added two assists.
Dana Carris from Vestal set a boys course record in 16 minutes, 49.6 seconds on a 3.1-mile course at Pheasant Hill Golf Course.
Corning took first place for the boys. Elmira led the girls meet.
