Maclay's Hall, Gladden suspended by FHSAA

By

Maclay football coach Kyler Hall and assistant John Gladden have been suspended by the FHSAA and will miss tonight’s game against Leon High at Leon.

Hall was suspended two weeks (one game) and Gladden one game by the association for “approaching an official after the game” following the Marauders’ defeat last Friday against FAMU High.

The Rattlers scored with 25 seconds remaining to win 12-7.

An emotional Hall apologized for his actions, but stressed he did not use objectionable language and only voiced his opinion. Hall and Gladden were permitted by the FHSAA to coach the Marauders during practice but are prohibited from attending tonight’s game. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Hall and Leon coach Bill Ragans are good friends. Both grew up in Live Oak and played at Florida State. Hall also coached under Ragans at Leon before he was hired at Maclay last year.

“It has been a very rough week,” Hall said.

“It was very unfortunate and you hate to miss any game, especially this one. I’ve received a ton of calls and really appreciate the support. There will be good to come out of this, and I am really proud of the way the kids have rallied together.”

Assistant head coach Jeff Crum will serve as Maclay’s head coach against the Lions. Crum is also a former assistant at Leon.

Maclay is off next week.

The Marauders are coming off a nine-win season and a North Florida Conference championship in Hall’s first year as coach.
