On Day 2 of the Green Bay Invitational Tournament on Saturday, the Manitowoc Legion baseball team continued in pool play, defeating Escanaba (Mich.) 8-7 before falling to the Green Bay Blue Jays 10-7 in nine innings to be eliminated from the tournament.

Against Escanaba, Manitowoc seven runs in the first four innings and held off a late rally. Manitowoc collected 11 hits in the game, with Michael Longmeyer going 3-for-5 with an RBI, Max Hansen going 2-for-4 with an RBI and Travis DuPont going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Eli Steimle started and pitched three innings for the no decision, allowing four runs, all earned, on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Hansen earned the relief win, throwing four innings and allowing three runs, none earned, on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

In its second game, Manitowoc rallied to score five runs in the seventh inning to send the game into extras where Green Bay would score three runs in the ninth after combining to net 17 hits in the game to Manitowoc’s six.

Nick Spurney went 2-for-5 for Manitowoc while DuPont was 1-for-4 with a double and Jordan Witczak was 1-for-5 with two RBI.

Peter Menges started and earned the no decision for Manitowoc, throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on 15 hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Alex Shimon pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and took the loss, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Manitowoc (3-3) plays at Ashport on Tuesday.
