The Manitowoc Legion baseball team split its final pair of games in the Central Wisconsin Classic in Plover on Saturday, falling in Game 1 to Janesville 6-1 while defeating Marquette (Mich.) in Game 2, 15-4.

The squad failed to advance to the championship round of the tournament and finished pool play 1-3.

Against Janesville, Manitowoc gave up three runs each in the third and seventh innings while managing to score its lone run in the sixth after having the bases loaded with no outs.

Manitowoc had eight hits in the game to Janesville’s nine, as Michael Longmeyer led Manitowoc by going 2-for-3 with a double.

Peter Menges started and took the complete-game loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on nine hits, two walks and one hit batter with five strikeouts.

In Game 2, Manitowoc plated two runs in the first to take an early lead before going off for five runs in the fifth and eight in the seventh.

Eli Steimle and Nick Spurney combined to allow Marquette to tally only one hit. Steimle started and earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on one hit and seven walks with 10 strikeouts. Spurney pitched on inning of relief, allowing two unearned runs on no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Offensively, Manitowoc (9-15) had 13 hits in the game, with Jordan Witczak and Brady Ferry each going 3-for-4 with Witczak collecting one RBI while Ferry had one double and two RBI. Also for Manitowoc, Longmeyer was 2-for-3 and Cole Wimmer was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
