The Manitowoc Legion baseball team was swept in a road doubleheader on Monday by the Green Bay Shockers, falling in Game 1, 9-4, and dropping Game 2, 17-7 in five innings.
In Game 1, Manitowoc took an early 1-0 lead into the second inning, but Green Bay scored its nine runs over the next five innings — including a five-run third inning — for the win.
Green Bay had 13 hits in the game to Manitowoc’s three, while the Shockers committed four errors to Manitowoc’s five.
Peter Menges took the complete-game loss, allowing nine runs, five earned, on 13 hits, four walks and four hit batters with three strikeouts.
Offensively, Manitowoc was led by Cole Wimmer who was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Nick Spurney who was 1-for-3. Also for Manitowoc, Logan Koss was 1-for-2.
In Game 2, Manitowoc led 7-6 entering the fifth inning, but Green Bay scored 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Eli Steimle started for Manitowoc, pitching three innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits and three walks with no strikeouts.
Mason Brunner took the loss, pitching 1 2/3 innings of relief and allowing seven earned runs on five hits and six walks with one strikeouts.
Also pitching in relief for Manitowoc was Wimmer, who allowed five unearned runs on one hit and four walks with no strikeouts.
Offensively for Manitowoc, Steimle was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Spurney was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Also for Manitowoc (8-12), Brady Ferry and Travis DuPont each went 1-for-3.
