Plainwell ended Marshall’s state tournament run on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep over the Redhawks in the Class B regional semifinal at Vicksburg.

Plainwell won by scores of 28-26, 25-15 and 33-31.

Marshall ends its season 23-19-2 overall while claiming the first district championship for the program since 2004.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these girls,” said Marshall head coach John Miller. “I know we came up short tonight, but that doesn’t take away how proud I am to have been around such a great group.”

The Redhawks were led by Grace Crawford with 17 kills and 17 digs. Morgan Benham had 18 assists and eight digs; Sarah Huffman had three blocks; and Carmen O’Dell was all over the place defensively with 33 digs.

“We had a nice turnaround last year from what Marshall volleyball has been about,” Miller said. “This season we were able to build on that. I think it was a good season. Much more successful season than our record showed.”
