The Pennfield and Marshall volleyball teams met up for a match and a good cause on Monday.
The Redhawks defeated the host Panthers 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) in a Dig Pink event, where both teams, coaches and officials wore pink for cancer awareness. Over $350 was raised for cancer research.
“A good night for a good cause,” said Pennfield head coach Tom VanWienen. “It was one of the biggest crowds we’ve had this season.”
Pennfield (18-16) was led by Hannah Day with five kills and two blocks in the loss.
Coldwater 3, (At) Kalamazoo Central 0: Coldwater won by scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-7.
The Cardinals (26-5-2) were led by BreeAnn Spangler with nine kills and five digs; Shelby Bowers had six kills and three blocks; Lauren Outwater had six kills and five blocks; Morgan Klein had two kills, four blocks and 11 digs; Darby Kahler had 16 digs.
Galesburg-Augusta 3, (At) Delton Kellogg 2: Galesburg-Augusta took fifth-place in the KVA tournament thanks to a goal apiece from Andy Gregg, Josh Saggio and Kyle Hoyt. Hoyt and Austin Pierce each had an assist, while Ryan Ranes made 14 saves in goal for the Rams (8-11).
Delton Kellogg received goals from Brandon Robbins and Mark Ordway.
Quincy 4, (At) Jonesville 0: Quincy’s Ashton Diotte scored two goals to help the Orioles finished in second place in the Independant Soccer League West Division. Also for Quincy (13-3-2, 6-2-2 ISL), Jake Rider had a goal and an assist, Igor Batista had a goal and Evan Albright had two assists.
(At) Olivet 2, Maple Valley 1 (SO): Olivet finished seventh in the KVA Tournament, thanks to a game-winning save in overtime by Russell Pliley. Pliley finished with three saves, while Tyler Andrews scored off an assist from Joe MacInees for the Eagles (3-10-1, 2-7-1 KVA).
