Colts Neck’s Joe Martinho had a goal and an assist as the Cougars defeated Freehold Township, 2-1, in a Class A North game on Thursday.
Martinho opened the scoring for the Cougars (3-1-1, 3-3-1) with an early first-half goal after receiving a pass from Michael Jelinsky for a one-time shot off the right foot from 12 yards out that rang off the left post and in.
Martinho would contribute to the second Cougars’ score after beating a Patriots defender to the left of 18 before slipping a pass to the top of the box where Scott Halpern resided. Halpern wasted no time connecting on another one timer into the top right hand corner of cage, placing the game out of reach at 16:25.
Freehold Township’s Nick Costelloe added a late score to at 46:20 off an assist from Nick Facendo for the Patriots (3-1, 3-1).
RARITAN 3, RB CATHOLIC 1: Michael Dente and Ryan Casciani scored a minute apart in the second half as the Rockets (2-2, 2-2) broke a 1-1 tie and defeated the Caseys (0-5, 0-5) in a Class A Central match for head coach Ron Poll’s 100th career win
Dente headed in a corner kick from John McAree into the lower left corner from 6 yards away.
Casciani received a through ball from Patrick Goddings, got behind the defenders and slotted in a shot into the lower left corner from 18 yards away.
HOLMDEL 3, SJ VIANNEY 0: Mitchell Walier stopped eight shots to record his fifth shutout in as many matches and Zach Bond scored twice as the Horrnets (5-0, 5-0) defeated the Lancers (2-2, 2-2) in a Class A Central match.
Bond scored the opening goal on a penalty kick 1:12 into the match after he was taken down in the box. He concluded the scoring with 16:24 remaining when he fired a direct kick into the lower right hand corner from 20 yards out.
Holmdel has outscored its opposition, 16-0.
WALL 1, FREEHOLD 0: Wall found the back of the net after Alan Burdge collected a bouncing corner kick and sent a touch pass to Chris Barcas who scored the eventual game-winning goal at 29:32 in the first half as the Knights (3-2, 3-2) defeated the Colonials (2-3, 2-3) in a Class B North match.
CBA 1, MARLBOR0 1: Jake Verdi’s goal with 3:52 left in regulation enabled the Colts (0-3-1, 0-3-1) to tie the Mustangs (0-1-3, 0-1-3) in a Class A North match.
Verdi scored on a shot from about 3 yards away. David Nigro had give Marlboro the lead 6:24 into the second half when he lobbed over the Colts’ goalkeeper from about 3 yards away.

CENTRAL 3, MON. DONOVAN 2: Lizzy Kroon scored the game-winning goal 5:47 into overtime as the Golden Eagles (5-0-1, 5-0-1) defeated the Griffins (5-3, 5-2) in a Class B South game. Kroon scored the clinching goal on a breakaway when she beat the keeper to the lower left side from 12 yards out. The Golden Eagles trailed 2-0 and scored three unanswered goals to win the game. The comeback started with Amanda Corlan’s goal at 61:20 and then Taylor Gregory scored the tying goal just before time expired after emerging from a scramble near the goal. Central’s Katie Weeks scored the first and second goal at 11:02 and 23:37 to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage at the time.
HOLMDEL 2, ST. JOHN VIANNEY 2: Jessica Moskal scored two goals for the Hornets (3-2-1, 3-1-1) and Shelgah Kerrisk and Erica Boyle scored a goal each for the Lancers (2-2-1, 2-1-1) as the Class A Central schools forged a double overtime tie. St. John Vianney’s Laura Dramis made 10 saves as well as Holmdel’s Helen Burleigh and each team had 12 shots.

MANCHESTER 2, LACEY 0: Senior setter-outside hitter Michelle Cuthbert’s 18 service points, 13 aces, three kills and six assists propelled the Hawks (5-1, 3-1) to a Class B South win over the Lions (0-6, 0-4).
Senior outside hitter Anevea Tinnery added four service points and two aces. Junior setter-middle hitter Kylie Siemanowicz had five service points, three aces, three kills and four assists.
Senior middle hitter Jacqueline Quinn led Lacey with three kills.
JACKSON MEMORIAL 2, TR SOUTH 0: Paced by senior outside hitter Courtney Matlock, senior hitter-setter Kim Matlock and senior setter Danielle Murgio, the Jaguars (5-1, 3-1) bested the Indians (2-3, 1-2) in Class A South.
Courtney Matlock finished with two aces, 11 kills and five digs. Kim Matlock added two aces, three kills, four digs and 10 assists and Murgio notched seven digs and nine assists.
Junior outside Andrea Eckholt led South with two aces and four kills.
