ANN ARBOR, Mich. — An 18-year-old Ann Arbor Pioneer football player faces charges stemming from an on-field brawl that broke out following a game.
A preliminary examination is to be held Dec. 6 for Bashir Garain. The high school senior was arraigned Tuesday and released on bond.
AnnArbor.com reports Garain was injured in an early season game and was on the sidelines Oct. 12 when a fight erupted at midfield between coaches and players after Pioneer defeated Ann Arbor Huron 35-6.
Someone swung a crutch that hit a Huron player in the face. He later received stitches at a local hospital.
Garain is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault and battery. He pleaded not guilty Tuesday and is being represented by the public defender’s office.
