In Omaha, Neb. at the USA swimming trials on Wednesday evening, Franklin won the 100m backstroke finals with a time of 58.85 seconds which is a new American record.

That win secures her spot to compete in that event in London. Franklin needed to finish in the top 2 in the backstroke to win an Olympic spot.

The 17-year-old Regis Jesuit High School senior is hoping to qualify for several other events throughout this week.

Franklin also advanced in the 200m free semifinal on Wednesday with a time of 1:58.62 which was good enough for third place.

The final for that event is on Thursday.

Former Cherry Creek High School star Bonnie Brandon finshed 5th in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:00.82.

Former Heritage High School star Mark Dylla qualified in 5th place for the Men’s 200 meter Butterfly final on Thursday.
