Through four weeks of the regular season, just 14 local teams are left in the ranks of the undefeated.
They are: Ozark, Nixa, Lebanon and Parkview in Class 5; Webb City and Hillcrest in Class 4; Cassville and Salem in Class 3; Mountain Grove, Strafford, Ash Grove and Sarcoxie in Class 2; and Miller and Skyline in Class 1.
Time will tell if any of these teams are state-championship worthy, but we do know this list will shrink by at least two teams next week, as Webb City plays host to Nixa, and Lebanon plays at Hillcrest on Friday night.
Will the Ozarks get another nice haul at state on Thanksgiving weekend, similar to last season’s three state championships?
Time will tell.
Here is a rundown of the weekend’s coverage:
Ozark sent a message to the rest of the state (again) on Friday with a dominating 65-26 victory against Central Ozark Conference Large Division rival Carthage. The senior skill players continue to lead the way for the Tigers, who are now 4-0.
Parkview paid tribute to a couple of fallen former teammates with a blowout victory of Waynesville. The Vikings are 4-0 after the emotional night.
The Camdenton Lakers showed off their balance offensively against Kickapoo, rushing more in the Ozark Conference victory. The preseason OC favorites are 2-2 and could still pull off a successful regular season with a strong finish.
Matt Schoch’s column today also addresses some of the top surprises in the first four weeks of the season. Some of them include Mountain Grove, Hillcrest, Parkview and South Central Association.
