After being in a scoreless tie at halftime the Monroe High School boys soccer team scored four second-half goals, led by Steven Nunes’ two scores, for a 4-0 shutout victory over St. Joseph in a Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division game in Monroe on Tuesday night.
Nunes opened up the second half scoring on an assist from Christian Corbisiero.
Luigi Buffolino and Brandon Cherney followed suit, both scoring on assists from Sean Doyle, beofre Nunes scored the fourth goal of the half on Buffolino’s assist to cap off the scoring.
Monroe (9-2) goalie Tyler Utheim had six saves for the shutout while St. Joseph (3-8) goalie Joe Bruno finished with nine saves.
Sayreville 2, South Plainfield 1: Senior Andrews Geker scored a first half goal and senior Alhaji Sheriff tallied his 11th goal of the season in the second half to lead the Sayreville (5-3-2). Freshman Nick Pollizzano cut the deficit in half for South Plainfield (3-5-3) with 14 minutes left in the game. Andrew Leibowitz made eight saves for the Bombers while Tigers goalie Patrick Boyle made seven saves.
North Brunswick 1, East Brunswick 0: David Coffie-Owusu scored a first-half goal off an assist from Anish Baweja to spark North Brunswick (5-2-1). Brandon Shamy and Steven Szakas each made six saves for the Raiders to preserve the shutout. East Brunswick falls to 5-4-1.
Edison 2, Woodbridge 1: Mused Mohammed netted two second half goals to lead Edison (7-3-1) and snap its three game losing streak. Daniel Macaulay-Smith scored a goal in the second half for Woodbridge (4-5-1).
South River 3, Wardlaw-Hartridge 0: Felic Csombok, Adrian Pietrzyk, and Obeth Silva each scored goals to lead South River (8-1-2) on Monday. Paul Ponce netted two assists and Gestemani Lopez made 11 saves for the shutout. Wardlaw-Hartridge (2-6-2) goalie Cory Harrell made 13 saves.
East Brunswick 5, Woodbridge 0: Sydney Rosa netted two goals and two assists to lead a strong East Brunswick (8-1-2) attack. Natasha Ntone Kouo, Katherine McCulley, and Ellie DiLiberto all scored goals as well for the Bears. Woodbridge fell to 1-10.
Ridge 4, Franklin 1: Jenny Haskel and Gigi Cifelli each tallied a goal and an assist to power Ridge (6-2-2).
Allison Pine and Keri Villano also struck for the Red Devils, while Samantha McFarlane scored for Franklin (4-5).
