Morris County football fans will have their hands full next weekend. No less than six Morris teams have reached the sectional championships – and all six will play on Saturday at two different sites.
None of the six qualifying teams will play at MetLife Stadium.
Highlighting the weekend for Morris will be the Section 2, Group II final between Morris schools Madison and Mountain Lakes, a pair of undefeated NJAC divisional champions.
The defending sectional champion Dodgers have won a New Jersey-high 36 straight games and have won the last two titles in that section. Madison, which won the NJAC-Freedom, shook free from upset-minded Bernards in the second half and captured a 46-21 victory in the sectional semifinal.
This is Mountain Lakes’ first year in the section. The Herd, who won the NJAC-Independence, qualified with a 26-20 victory over Caldwell Saturday.
Roxbury, which defeated Paramus in the Section 1, Group IV semifinals on Friday night, 29-12, will oppose Pascack Valley in the sectional finals at Kean Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Kinnelon will be gunning for its first sectional title in school history when it takes on New Milford at Kean Saturday at 1 p.m. The Colts have won the first two playoff games in school history to reach this point.
Two NJAC-National teams will play back-to-back at Rutgers on Saturday.
West Morris will face neighboring rival Warren Hills for the Section 2, Group IV crown at 10 a.m., followed by the Delbarton-St. Joseph-Montvale battle for the state Non-Public Group III championship at 1 p.m. The Green Wave captured the rugged NJAC-National crown.
A seventh team out of the NJAC – Sparta – will face Ramapo in the Section 1, Group III championship game at Kean Saturday at 4 p.m.
