Naples scored nine touchdowns in a 63-0 victory over Gulf Coast on Friday night, yet it was not the Manny Morgan show.
The Golden Eagles’ star running back played for only two quarters, so he scored “only” two touchdowns and rushed for “only” 106 yards. But with Morgan carrying the ball less, more Naples players were able to share in the bounty.
“We got to play everybody,” Naples coach Bill Kramer said.
Naples quarterback Kilton Anderson scored three rushing touchdowns before he was lifted for backup Garrett Zech at halftime. There were also two 69-yard rushing touchdowns, one by freshman Tyler Byrd and the other by sophomore Max Joseph. Even linebacker Patrick Goodall joined in the fun with two fumble returns to the end zone.
In the rainy conditions, Gulf Coast fumbled the ball eight times, losing five.
The turnovers were devastating for the Sharks (1-2), who crossed midfield only once. Naples (4-0) started only two drives in its own end of the field.
The entire second half was played under a running clock.
