North Florida Christian’s Cole Sands did more than follow in his older brother’s footsteps. He made his own imprint, too.

Sands, a rising sophomore pitcher at North Florida Christian, was named to the first USA Baseball 15U National Team following a five-day trial period at the organization’s National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Carson Sands, a rising junior at NFC and Florida State commitment, played on the 2011 16U national Team and is currently on the 18U National Team Trials roster.

Cole Sands and teammates will continue to train in North Carolina before departing on Sunday for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for a four-game series consisting of four teams:

USA Baseball’s 15U National Team, two teams consisting of July 2, 2013 eligible players from the Dominican Republic and one team from Puerto Rico.

Sands is one of three Floridians named to the 20-player team, which is managed by Tom Meusborn.

Carson Sands, one of 28 finalists for the 18U team, will report to California on Aug. 18 for the second phase of national team trials.

From the second phase of trials, 20 players will be selected to compete for the 18U National Team at the IBAF Junior AAA/18U World Championships in Seoul, South Korea, Aug. 30-Sept. 8.

The USA is scheduled to play Australia, Netherlands, Korea, Colombia and Venezuela in World Championship pool play.
