No. 1 CCA sweeps Anamosa


The Class 4A top-ranked Clear Creek Amana softball team swept Anamosa 10-0 in five innings and 11-1 in six innings Wednesday in Oxford.

Mariah McKinnon hit 3-for-3 with three runs for the Clippers in the first game, Caitlin Wnek hit 2-for-3 with a walk-off solo home run, and Fran Strub hit 3-for-4.

Mallory Madsen hit 3-for-4 in the second game, and eighth-grader Monika Bevans hit a pinch-hit solo home run.

Clear Creek Amana is 15-0 overall and 8-0 in the WaMaC.

* SOLON 10, MARION 1: Arran Weeces had 15 strikeouts with six hits to earn the win as the Class 3A top-ranked Spartans won in Marion.

Taylor Nearad hit 2-for-3 with two runs, and Rylee Smith hit 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Solon is 12-0.

* WEST BRANCH 8, IOWA VALLEY 3: Mary Baldwin hit a two-run home run and earned the win as the Bears cruised in West Branch.

Shannon Laing hit 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Jen Pohlman hit 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, Heather Poula hit 1-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases, and Leah Hott hit 2-for-3 with an RBI.

West Branch is 10-4.

* LONE TREE 12, PEKIN 2 (5): Maggie Schmidt earned the win for the Lions in Pekin, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Madelyn Flemr hit 2-for-4 with a double, three stolen bases, two runs and two RBIs. Jenny Jones hit 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, Ella Feldman scored three runs, Karley Hester hit 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Micaela Selck had a double and a run.

Lone Tree is 5-9 overall and 5-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

* CARDINAL 5, HIGHLAND 0: The Huskies had six hits but suffered the shutout loss in Riverside.

Kassie Vazquez hit 2-for-3, and Paige Wieland hit 2-for-4 for Highland (5-8).
