The No. 1-ranked St. Philip volleyball squad swept a pair of matches on Wednesday, defeating New Buffalo and Sturgis to improve to 63-1-1 on the season in this quad hosted by Bronson.
The Tigers defeated New Buffalo, 25-9, 27-25, 25-15 and beat Sturgis, 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.
St. Philip was led by Casey Gallagher with nine kills and two blocks with Natalie Gallagher adding 14 digs. Sam Ellis chipped in with five kills, three blocks and five assists as Emily Schaub had 21 assists.
Division 3 eighth-ranked Bronson volleyball team went 1-1 with a win over Sturgis (25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 24-26, 25-8) and a loss to New Buffalo (25-20, 25-23, 25-23).
The Vikings (30-17-6) were led by Kylei Ratkowski with 22 kills, four aces, 21 digs and five blocks; Emily Mayes had 15 kills and five blocks; Skyler Sobeski had 13 kills, six aces and 20 blocks; Brooke O’Neill had nine kills and two blocks; Alexa Ratkowski had three kills, 55 assists, seven digs, one block and one ace; Liz Baker had three aces and 12 digs; and Grace Pyles had 27 digs and two aces.
Homer 3, (at) Quincy 0 (Tue.): Homer won 25-22, 25-20, 25-11.
The Trojans (19-16-3, 4-3 Big Eight) were led by Hannah Willson with 13 kills and 19 digs; Stephanie Osborn had 12 kills and four blocks; Brooke Ebersole had 27 assists and two aces; and Kristin Nelson had 15 digs.
Gobles Invitational (Sat.): In the 16-team boys’ race, Quincy placed fifth 145 points; Athens was 12th with 314; and Colon was 14th with 341 points.
Quincy’s scorers were Zach Slack (fifth, 17:18), Logan Kestner (19th, 17:57), Tyler Smith (25th, 18:07), Hunter Winger (42nd, 19:00) and Jared Brown (54th, 19:41).
Athens’ scorers were Will Fairchild (46th, 19:07), Mason Mears (57th, 19:44), Casey Hardin (72nd, 20:21), Steven Waring (80th, 20:45) and Jake Iles (98th, 23:17).
Colon’s scorers were Harley Thompson (33rd, 18:28), Kyle Poortenga (34th, 18:32), Larry Peppers (93rd, 20:24), Jonathan Stewart (82nd, 20:53), and Ben Weaver (99th, 23:29).
In the 17-team girls’ race, Quincy won with 57 points; Colon was ninth with 293; Galesburg-Augusta was 15th with 335 and Athens was 17th with 418.
Quincy’s scorers were Nikole Loomis (fifth, 21:34), Kelse Bean (eighth, 21:52), Stine Andreassen-Rudd (13th, 22:04), Sasha Burnett (21st, 22:20) and Reanna Sloan (33r, 23:32).
Colon’s scorers were Skyler Harvey (sixth, 21:35), Anessa Broker (31st, 23:21) and Brianne Reichert (71st, 26:08).
Galesburg-Augusta’s scorers were Sam Schab (39th, 23:47), Chloe Ostlund (53rd, 24:46), Heather Harvey (26:58), Cassi Savage (82nd, 27:31) and Kasey Little (85th, 28:27).
