Senior guard Cody Thompson scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter as the No. 6 Middletown North boys basketball team defeated No. 7 Manalapan, 60-41, in a Shore Conference Class A North game Thursday.
Senior guard Will Boman added 11 of his 20 points in the first half and senior forward John Dini added nine points.
Manalapan senior guard Anthony Firkser scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the second half. Senior center Dennis Girolamo added 13 points and senior guard Mike Pyzik added seven points.
CBA 53, MIDD. SOUTH 33: Pat Andree scored eight of his team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, Louie Pillari added seven of his 12 points in the third quarter and Jack Laffey added six of his 10 points in the first half as the No. 8 Colts (1-2, 1-2) defeated the Eagles (1-2, 1-2) in a Class A North game.
Middletown South’s Tom DiMeo scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and Mike Diorio added six of his 10 points in the first quarter.
SOUTHERN 47, TR NORTH 46: Junior forward Mike Gesicki scored eight of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter and sophomore forward Jake Logue added 10 points as the Rams (3-0, 3-0) defeated the Mariners (3-1, 2-1) in a Class A South game.
Toms River North junior guard Kyle Carrington scored six of his 11 points in the second half and senior guard Damian Singleton added 10 points.
DONOVAN 49, BARNEGAT 35: Junior guard Matt Migdon netted 14 points to lead the Griffins (3-0, 3-0) past the Bengals (0-3, 0-3) in Class B South.
Migdon scored eight first-half points, including five in the opening quarter, as the Griffins took a 28-12 lead. Kyle Morris, a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward, led the Bengals with 19 points, eight rebounds, six blocks and five steals.
LAKEWOOD 94, PINELANDS 46: Tyrice Beverette scored nine of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter and Malik Mendez scored nine of his 14 points in the third quarter as the No. 5 Piners (3-0, 3-0) defeated the Wildcats in a Class B South game. Lakewood coach Randy Holmes increased his career record to 98-39 with the victory.
Pinelands’ Luke Stanbaugh had 10 points of his 13 points in the second half.
JACKSON LIBERTY 57, MANCHESTER 56: Junior guard-forward James Sofield’s 3-point field goal from the left wing with 12 seconds left in regulation gave the Lions (2-1, 2-1) a Class B South win over the Hawks (1-2, 1-2).
Sofield, who finished with 19 points, connected from 21 feet for his lone points of the fourth quarter. He buried three of five shots from downtown on the night. Junior forward Daniel Niblack scored a game-high 27, including seven in the fourth quarter, for the Lions. The winners rallied from a 49-45 third-quarter deficit.
Niblack and Sofield grabbed 10 and seven rebounds, respectively.
ASBURY PARK 46, HENRY HUDSON 41: Daquane Bland-Bennett scored seven of his team-high 11 points in the second half and Will Lezin added four of his 10 points in the third quarter as the No. 9 Blue Bishops (1-2, 1-2) defeated the Admirals (0-3, 0-3) in a Class B Central game. Henry Hudson’s Tom DeFilippo had six of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and Kyle Rauen added six of his eight points in the first quarter.
JACKSON MEM. 63, BRICK 36: Saliom Simon’s 22 points, Nick Specht’s 17 and Eric Carter’s 15 paced the Jaguars (3-0, 3-0) past the Green Dragons (0-3, 0-3) in Class A South.
Specht scored nine points and Simon added seven in a 23-7 third-quarter spree that sent Jackson ahead, 50-30, heading into the final eight minutes. Simon’s 10 first-half points staked the Jaguars to a 27-23 lead.
COLTS NECK 76, MARLBORO 33: Senior Brandon Federici scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, senior Tim Vangelas added 14 points and sophomore Christopher O’Reilly added 13 points as the Cougars (3-0, 3-0) defeated the Mustangs (0-3, 0-3) in a Class A North game.
Marlboro sophomore Matthew Ringel had a team-high 10 points.
HOLMDEL 65, MONMOUTH 64: Jeff Harris (15 points) hit the game-winning shot with eight seconds left to lead the Hornets (2-1) over the Falcons (2-1) in a Class A Central game. Brett Lambert scored 7 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Nyrhique Smith scored 16 of his team-high 27 points in the second half for the Falcons.
In girls games
MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 70, BARNEGAT 52: Kelly Milana scored the 1,000th point of her career on a free throw in the third quarter, leading the Griffins (2-1) over the Bengals (1-2) in a Class B South game.
Milana finished with 27 points and now has a total of 1002 for her career. She also pulled down 15 rebounds.Sana Carbone scored 11 of her 18 points in the second quarter for the Griffins.
Samantha DeCapua scored 9 of her 17 points in the first half for the Bengals.
TR NORTH 35, SOUTHERN 32: Senior guard Kristine Knowles scored 13 points and added seven rebounds to power the Mariners (3-0, 3-0) past the Rams (1-2, 1-2) in Class A South.
Knowles scored six third-quarter points in a 17-6 output that rallied the Mariners from an 18-11 halftime deficit and into a 28-24 lead. Teammate Nikki Gardner had three 3-pointers in the third quarter
Knowles went 5-for-10 from the field. Kendal Kauffman added five steals. Allison Spaschak led the Rams with 16 points.
MATER DEI PREP 37, KEYPORT 30: Sophomore point guard Lindsey Florio’s 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals carried the Seraphs (1-2, 1-2) past the Red Raiders (2-1, 2-1) in Class B Central.
Led by sophomore guard Brooke Trotta’s five points, the Seraphs went on an 11-2 third-quarter run, taking a 26-19 lead. Florio scored five fourth-quarter points. Samantha Cortez scored six first-half points for Keyport.
JACKSON MEM. 68, BRICK 34: Hannah Missry scored 15 of her game-high 21 points in the first half and Stephanie Mason added six of her 18 points in the second quarter as the Jaguars defeated the Green Dragons in a Class A South game.
Ashley Pfeli scored 10 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter and Brianna Page added six of her 13 points in the fourth quarter.
FREEHOLD TWP. 72, HOWELL 31: Tori Wagner scored a game-high 13 points and Ryan Jacksn and Nicole Jackson added 10 each, leading the Patriots (1-2, 1-2) past the Rebels (1-2, 1-2) in Class A North.
Nicole Jackson and Harlie Kneler netted seven each and Ryan Jackson added four in a 28-9 second-quarter run that staked the Patriots to a 42-15 halftime lead. Wagner scored six and Samantha Famulare had two 3-pointers in a 14-6 first-quarter surge.
