The North Fond du Lac/Oakfield boys soccer team picked a good time to get its second win of the season. Visiting NF/O beat Berlin 4-2 in Saturday’s opening round of the WIAA tournament.
Ben Mand scored for the Nuts in the first half, but the 17 seed trailed 15th seeded Berlin 2-1 at the break. Taylor Jones tied the game in the 49th minute, and two goals in quick successin from Oscar Arroyo and Adan Scheer put NF/O in control.
Trent Vielbig made nine saves to preserve the victory.
“I couldn’t be more excited for these boys. They worked hard for this victory,” said NF/O coach Donovan Heavener. ” No one has given them any credit this season and that included our ranking in the sectional bracket. We had something to prove today and I think we proved it. We are a lot better than what our record shows.”
NF/O plays at Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday.

The host Storm won a regional opener behind a 35th minute header.
“We dominated the possession for the majority of the game, especially the last 20 minutes, but couldn’t get through to the penalty box often enough to get a goal,” said Springs coach Tony Denzin.
