The North Port football team brought plenty of defense if not many fans to Lely High School Friday night.
The Bobcats limited the Trojans to only 46 yards of offense en route to a 7-0 victory in front of a sparse crowd in the visiting bleachers in a non-district football showdown at Lely.
North Port came up with the only score late in the first quarter. Trenton White scored on a 1-yard sneak with 38 seconds left in the first to put the Bobcats ahead 7-0. It was set up by a 36-yard pass from White to Cody Janski to put the ball at the Lely 3-yard line.
“We came into the game well-prepared,” said Lely coach Stacey Stewart. “We came out and played great defense. The offense didn’t do much to help, though. We handled a lot of Homecoming distractions well, as well as a monsoon here late in the game.”
White had 172 yards rushing for the Bobcats.
Lely was held without a first down for the first half and had only two for the game.
