Olson's goals lift Lincoln over Hortonville

Michael Olson scored two goals for the Manitowoc Lincoln boys soccer team as the Ships topped host Hortonville 3-0 on Thursday.

Thirty minutes into the game Mitchell Belisle scored an unassisted goal to break the scoreless tie. Just one minute later Olson scored on an assist from Belisle to make the game 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Olson scored in the 79th minute to put the game out of reach.

Lincoln had 20 shots in the game to Hortonville’s eight. Drake Nickels earned the win and made three saves in net for the Ships.

“A solid defensive job from our boys tonight. Defense can be a thankless job at times, but any time you pitch a shutout your goalkeeper and defenders need to be recognized,” Lincoln coach Chris Callen said in an email after the game. “On the flip side, Michael Olson was the difference for us up front, finishing with two hard-earned goals. The entire team deserves the credit though. They picked themselves up after a slow start and brought a heck of a battle to Hortonville.”

Two Rivers’ Cameron Greene scored 23 minutes into the game on an assist from Bryce Ruedinger as the Raiders led 1-0 at halftime of the road game.

Then 17 minutes into the second half Brock Gospadarek scored on a header on an assist from Greene to put the game out of reach.

Campbellsport notched their only score with 13 minutes left in the game.

Two Rivers (2-2, 2-0 Eastern Wisconsin Conference) has 19 shots on goal and goalkeeper Erik Wiegand had 15 saves to earn the win.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime after allowing goals in the eighth and 24th minute, the visiting Jets allowed goals in the 40th, 43rd, 44th and 58th minute for the loss.

Zach Berres made 12 saves for Roncalli (2-2, 1-2 Olympian Conference). The Jets had three shots in the game.

Roncalli next hosts Algoma on Monday.
