Oshkosh West rallied from a six-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter but couldn’t stay in front as Appleton North squeezed out a 50-49 win in a Fox Valley Association boys basketball game on Friday night.

The Lightning (6-4, 4-4) scored the go-ahead basket with 14 seconds left after rallying down the stretch. The Wildcats (4-6, 2-6) got a shot off at the buzzer, but it missed the mark.

“It was a great high school basketball game,” West coach Jason Fahrney said. “They just made one more play than we did.”

Andrew Boeder scored 16 points and Blake Derickson added 14 for West, which led 10-7 after the first quarter but went into halftime trailing by three.

Frank Van Handel scored 11 points to lead a balanced Lightning attack.

Neither team shot well from the free-throw line as West finished 14-of-28, while North made just 9-of-17 attempts.
