Ryan Santoso never imagined being recognized among the nation’s best prep football players and the opportunity to play in a national All-American game.
It all settled into focus Thursday when the Pace High senior kicker was saluted for his selection in the 6th Annual Under Armour All-American Game, presented by American Family Insurance.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the Under Armour game,” said Santoso, addressing a ceremony at the school that included his teammates. “It is such a prestigious game. All my hard work has paid off.”
Santoso, a three-year starter, joins Trent Richardson as the only players from the Pensacola area selected to the national event. Richardson played following his senior season at Escambia High in 2008.
This year’s game will be held on Jan. 4 at 4 p.m. at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. It will be televised nationally on ESPN.
“Ryan has a great future ahead of him,” said Pace coach Mickey Lindsey. “The first time I saw him as a 10th grader, I knew he was going to be special. He is very humble. He is the kind of high school kid you want representing your school.”
