Palo Verde drops from top spot: New girls soccer rankings (UPDATED)


Palo Verde girls soccer has dropped from the top spot in Division III after three losses and a tie through the first few matches of the season.

There has been some movement in each of the divisons after the first two weeks of the season.

Rankings as of Thursday, Dec. 6 :

NOTE: Previous ranking in parentheses. X- unranked. Thursday, Dec. 6 matches are not accounted for in rankings below. Tournament results are accounted for.

1. Highland (1) — 5-0. Just cruising. Big match vs. Hamilton in Diablos semis tonight.
2. Xavier Prep (2) — 4-0. Nice early win vs. Pinnacle in Horizon TOC.
3. Pinnacle (3) — Bounced back from a loss to Xavier Prep with win over Catalina Foothills in Horizon TOC.
4. Desert Vista (5) — 6-0. Faces Corona del Sol, which it beat earlier in power-point match, in Diablos semis tonight.
5. Boulder Creek (10) — Yes, we are jumping on the bandwagon early. 4-0. Won Paradise Valley tourney. But next test won’t be until the Arizona Soccer Showcase later this month. Did beat Pinnacle in preseason scrimmage.
t-6. Chaparral (6) — 3-0. Nice 2-0 win over Cactus Shadows in first week of season.
t-6. Mountain View (7) — 8-1. 3-1 at Brandon Beane. Great power-point wins so far.
8. Hamilton (4) — 3-1-1. Started the season with loss to Marana Mountain View and tie with Basha.
9. Red Mountain (9) — 4-1. Lone loss was to Desert Vista, 1-0, at Diablos pool play.
10. Corona del Sol (8) — 3-1-1 to start the season. In Diablos semis.

1. Catalina Foothills (1) — 7-1-1. Won Brandon Beane tourney. Tied NDP and lost to Pinnacle in Horizon TOC.
2. Ironwood Ridge (2) — 6-2. Lost to Catalina Foothills in Brandon Beane semifinals.
3. Cactus Shadows (3) — 2-0 in Horizon TOC. Lost to Chaparral.
4. Sahuaro (5) — 6-2. Reached final of Brandon Beane tourney. Good win vs. Mountain View. Both losses to Catalina Foothills.
5. Notre Dame Prep (6) — 0-1-1 in Horizon TOC after loss to Cactus Shadows and tie vs. Catalina Foothills.
6. Arcadia (4) — 3-1. Lost to Horizon in Horizon TOC.
7. Sabino (7) — 4-2. Reached Brandon Beane quarterfinals.
8. Raymond S. Kellis (8) — 2-1-1. Reached Paradise Valley tourney finals.
9. Apollo (9) — 2-2. Shout out to former coach Michael Varela, a U.S. Marine who was deployed to Afghanistan on Sunday. Thank you for serving your country.
10. Flagstaff (10) — 4-0. Faces Agua Fria in semifinals of O’Connor tourney tonight.

1. Verrado (2) — Showcased their exciting talent early with a dominant 7-0 win over Estrella Foothills, its lone match of the season so far.
2. Seton Catholic (3) — 2-0. May not be tested in power-point schedule at all this season.
3. Campo Verde (5) — 1-0. Hopes to win this weekend’s Desert Ridge Cactus Cup.
4. Palo Verde (1) — 3-3-1. Rough start to the season for preseason No. 1.
5. Higley (6) — 3-0. Could also do well in Cactus Cup.
6. Valley Christian (7) — 2-1. No shame in 4-0 loss to powerful Seton Catholic.
7. Fountain Hills (8) — 2-1. Also suffered 4-0 loss but it was to Division II’s Notre Dame Prep.
8. Estrella Foothills (4) — 2-2. Losses to Verrado and Northwest Christian.
9. Mingus (9) — 2-1. Loss to Division II’s Arcadia.
10. Cactus (X) — Senior-laden team currently playing in Deer Valley tourney.

Dropped out: Williams Field (10).
